Well I phoned BT about my broadband problem which I have posted about previously. The support team which I swear is based in India started treating me like one of those people who really don’t have a clue and actually blamed the problem on my Sky box(es). I put them straight and after reading up on the terms last night could tell them that I needed my IP.Profile reset as it had jammed at 500K.
This was greeted with a long pause and then the person at the end of the phone told me he didn’t have a clue what that was. He then forwarded me to his manager which actually knew what it was and told me he would place an order with BT Wholesale to reset it. Apparently I should be back at 2800K within 24 hours. Whether that will happen or not remains to be seen.
I thought that’s that sorted lets relax the rest of the day and go on MSN for a little while. God was I wrong because then I was greeted with people asking whether or not my hosting server was in trouble as they were getting emails from the new “support team†asking for there hosting account details including there passwords! :@
Needless to say this is not me nor any of my hosting support team employees. If you are a customer and reading this notice please do not give them any details about your hosting account and if in doubt feel free to contact me personally by clicking the contact me link above in the header.
What a day this has been. Every electrical device I have touched today has broken.
First it was the laptop. I had installed a fresh copy of Windows XP Media Centre Edition 2005 and therefore it needed activated. I thought no problem I will do it on-line.. but no, Microsoft had decided I had used my product key to activate too many times. So got the phone number and called the lovely people at the activation centre. They asked for my first 6 digits of my installation ID. Unfortunately XP didn’t think I deserved it.
Once I eventually managed to get it activated I then tried to update on-line. It failed and says it could not find the web page. I wasn’t surprised it ran on Windows operating systems! Tried to go to GMail and that also wasn’t found. Then it came to me :O I had no internet! A quick glance at the router confirmed this as the DSL light was not lit.
A quick call to BT got that sorted. Then started a few torrents and the speeds were nothing short of shocking. Decided to reset the router to factory settings and what a mistake that turned out to be. It needed lots of restarts and BT’s stupid automated line grading system thought the line was faulty so lowered my speed to 1.5mbps. So now I have to wait 3 days before it is regraded.
Sorry for the long post and thanks if you got this far.
